HISTORIC HARRINGTON CABIN & HOMESTEAD GARDEN

Outside the Museum is the Harrington Cabin, telling many stories about the hard-working pioneers and homesteaders in the Kachemak Bay area. From hand tools and daily diaries to crochet work and kitchen supplies, the history of a self-reliant era encircles you with the clarity of a fossilized shell. Guided tours are available in the summer, and an oral history recording is available when a cabin interpreter is not present. Learn more HERE.
Located just outside the Harrington Cabin, the Homestead Garden is an ever-evolving exhibit featuring many classic fruits and vegetables and a few specific local varieties that have been treasured by the local community for generations.

BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Pratt Museum Botanical Garden is a living exhibit featuring over 150 species of plants that are indigenous to the Kenai Peninsula, divided by biome to showcase the native flora and ecological connections in our region. Interpretive signage includes local indigenous names and ethnobotanical uses for the plants, connecting people and place in a reflection of our mission statement.
During the summer, we offer guided tours of the Botanical Garden, as well as a series of workshops related to the gardens. We invite local artists and educators to present in their specialties, while our staff develop unique content for workshops reflecting interest and feedback from the community.

PRATT MUSEUM FOREST TRAILS

The Forest Trails showcase the ecological context in which the Museum is embedded. These trails wind through one of the larger remaining wild spaces in downtown Homer and have some of the largest remaining trees in the area. Wildlife is abundant and the plant communities are divers. There are several loops of varying distance that wind through the nearly 10-acre forest. A meander through these woods will offer an opportunity for wildlife sightings, listening to songbirds, and pondering the ethnobotanical and historical uses of plants that live in our region.
