SUMMARY:"Inner Stellar" Opening Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Pratt Museum is excited to announce Inner Stellar\, our summer special exhibition\, featuring the work of American painter Marjorie Scholl. \nIn this series of painted portraits that honors the experience of reacquainting with one’s ‘inner child’\, Marjorie Scholl has painted people in her community\, portraits that illuminate each subject in their bright essence\, holding the weight of their unique ancestry – hardships\, healing\, and all. Each painting is set in a forest of birch trees\, using light and shadow to allude to the adversities and resilience\, as well as the loneliness and triumph\, that comes from developing the whole self. \nPlease join us for a free Opening Exhibition beginning at 5pm on Friday\, May 17th. Meet the artist\, explore the exhibition\, and enjoy gathering with other community members to celebrate this special exhibit. Celebratory refreshments will be served.

DESCRIPTION:Bones\, Tusks & More: A Lecture by ‘Bone Man’ Lee Post \nSaturday\, November 16 | 4 – 6pm | No Charge ($5 donation suggested) \nJoin us for an afternoon with local Bone Man Lee Post and learn more about the Narwhal Tusk that is now on display in the Marine Gallery at the Pratt Museum. Post will also share more about his contributions to the osteology collection at the Museum including salvaging\, preparing\, and often articulating animal skeletons\, such as the 17-foot Stejneger’s Beaked Whale on display in our Main Gallery. \nLee Post is a nationally recognized bone articulation expert with more than thirty years of experience. He is one of the world’s leading authorities on salvaging\, preparing\, and articulating beached whales\, a story that began when the Pratt Museum acquired a 17-foot beaked whale that washed up on the shores of Kachemak Bay in 1977. This led to fifteen years of building up the osteology collection at the Museum\, followed by decades of collaborations with schools and students. Post has also created a variety of written manuals that are some of the only of their kind in the world.
