SUMMARY:Volunteer at the Pratt
DESCRIPTION:We have multiple volunteer opportunities at the Pratt this summer and fall for all interests! \nIf you are interested in greeting guests and working inside of the museum\, you might want to consider working at our front desk.  We are always looking for volunteers to work Thursday and Friday.  This is an unpaid position for Thursday and Friday.  If you would like to work on Saturdays\, this is a paid position that we are currently hiring for. Email Laura Kelley for more information at lkelley@prattmuseum.org. \nFor those of you who would rather spend your time outside\, volunteer with our Botanical Garden Team! \n\nVolunteer days will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month\, from 1-5 pm.  You can drop by for any length of time in that window and we will have a variety of available tasks\, ranging from light weeding to heavy hauling – pick your own adventure! \nThe dates you can volunteer are: \n\nJune 16 (partnering with Homer Soil and Water Conservation District (HSWCD) as a community “weed-pull”)\nJuly 21\nAugust 18\n\nSeptember 15 \nContact Yarrow Hinnant for more details at trailhealer@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Writers\, poets\, artists\, jewelers\, creators\, scientists\, dreamers\, and everyone in between – join us in sharing our Collection here at the Pratt with the world through your perspective.  We are in the process of creating a book based upon objects within our Collection\, “The History of Kachemak Bay in 100 Objects.”  Each writer commits to writing 250 words maximum about one object of their choice from the Pratt Museum collection. Your pieces will be published first in the Pratt newsletter and afterward collected in book form. \nTo begin this project\, we will publish one piece a month in our monthly newsletter. SUMMARY:Finding Home in Homer Community Events
DESCRIPTION:Community Conversation\, Friday\, August 13th\, 12 – 1:30 PM\n\nThe Pratt Museum & Park\, in partnership with South Peninsula Behavioral Health\, will host a community conversation around youth housing insecurity on the Peninsula. The discussion will center on the exhibit “Finding Home in Homer” on display through August 31 in the museum’s community gallery.\n\nFinding Home in Homer is a year-long project that invited youth who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity in Homer to explore their stories and express themselves through different artistic mediums\, with the support of artist mentors\, community mentors\, and their peers. We will explore how the program was shaped by COVID 19 and reflect on what we learned in the process. This discussion is open to the public and will be made accessible on Zoom.   RSVP via Eventbrite or email hatkins@prattmuseum.org.  Once you RSVP\, you will receive the zoom link closer to the date.\n\n\nLive Music and Artist Celebration\, Saturday\, August 14th\, 4 – 6 PM \n\nMusic performances by Courtney Rose\, Little Foot\, and special guests.\n\nCourtney is the Bristol Bay Lead for the Youth Alaska Action Board on Housing and Homelessness (YAABHH)\, creator of the Blue Eyed Native project\, and lead singer of Murmur.\nFoot is the Statewide Lead for YAABHH\, founder of Houseless Records\, and member of the Continuum of Care Board for the Balance of State. Both of these artists/ activists/ musicians will perform their original music.\n\nCourtney and Foot will offer a tour of the current exhibit\, Finding Home in Homer\, located in the Community Room at the Pratt Museum.\n\n\n*Due to COVID-19 safety protocols\, this event will have limited attendance.
