The Sliding Place

A walk along the north shore of Kachemak Bay is a stroll through high energy coastal processes in action. Boulders, left behind by retreating glaciers, appear and disappear with changing tides. Power-packed waves crash against seabluffs of sandstone and coal. These tall bluffs, saturated with ground water, become an hourglass of change, cascading sections of earth to the beach below. More than one house has found itself teetering on the edge of a disappearing bluff.
