The youngest bedrock formations in Kachemak
Bay are exposed on the north shore. They formed about
23 to 1.8 million years ago. Older sediments are found
in the hills above and north of Homer, in a thin band
of seabluffs from Bluff Point to around Troublesome
Creek. A slightly wider band of seabluffs exists around
McNeil, Cottonwood, Eastland, and Falls Creeks. In
places, these deposits are almost one mile thick.
