Pratt Museum High School Summer Internship Program 2007

Job Title: High School Intern

Reports to: Museum Education Program Director and Education Staff

Goal: To expose high school students to the many facets of natural history and museum work through the museum’s science, culture and humanities-based education program.

Responsibilities:
* Work within existing Museum framework and procedures.
*Develop and lead education activities for Museum summer programs, including activities for Pratt Pods, Object at Hand, and the Forest Ecology Trail/Botanical Garden tours.
*Participate in field research activities and on-site Museum activities.
*Complete a special project(s) this year. By arrangement with Education Director.
*Demonstrate use of remote video system for visitors.
*Communicate knowledge and experience to visitors.

Qualifications:
*Demonstrate an interest in and enthusiasm for natural history.
*Express a desire to communicate this interest and enthusiasm to others.
*Have the ability to be flexible and work as a Museum team member.
*Show an interest in working with people of all ages.
*Demonstrate initiative, reliability, punctuality, and responsibility.
*Be willing to learn about and use video and computer technology.
*Have the availability to participate in one or more field trips.
*Must be entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in the fall of 2006 and have parent/guardian permission.

Training: A 2-hour orientation will be held at the museum for all interns on the first day of work Interns will work directly with Museum professionals, interpretive staff, and visiting scientists to develop science and communication skills, will also learn to use associated technology and equipment. Additional training will be provided to allow interns to participate in other museum functions.

Salary: $8.00 per hour / 10 hours per week.

Application Deadline: May 25, 2007 for all students. Interviews will be held May 30-31, and selection notification will be made on June 1.

Starting/ Ending Dates: June 11 - August 10, 2007, (with possibility of extending the Internship beyond August 10, 2007. All Interns will have July 2-6th off.)
