Community Conversations

Community Conversation participants

In its role as a community forum, collective memory, and informal educator, the Museum regularly hosts forums that reflect our community spirit and future choices. At monthly Community Conversations, facilitated by Dr. Deland Anderson, we discuss topics of concern in a neutral environment to promote reflection, tolerance, and sharing stories. Conversations, often reflecting a sense of conflict or unease about the health of our community, include topics on the recent rash of public art vandalism, on rethinking culture and community through fish, the perennial Alaskan dilemma of junk, and the arduous path of how an outsider becomes a local.

Our monthly Community Conversations usually take place on the third Friday of the month at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please check our Calendar to confirm dates and times for upcoming conversations!

The following are papers on these Community Conversations topics. We invite your comments, suggestions and questions. Contact Dr. Deland Anderson at deland@xyz.net.
